Howdy Fellas, My father and I are heading down to East Matagorda Thursday AM. We will be staying in one of the chinquapin hunting and fishing club rentals between lake austin and the bay. While my father has a pretty good knowledge of the salt, I probably havent fished in the bay since I was 17. I was just curious if anyone had any advice, tips, wishes of good luck etc etc... Really looking forward to this trip and hoping we can come home with some trout filets. Ill post a report when we get back Thanks guys

Old spoons and DEO shrimp or live shrimp under a popping corn have produced nice Results (trout) for a lot of folks. Been a lot of trout Caught lately.

I was there the weekend of 5-18/19, shrimp under corks in the cuts between shell islands and slack behind the islands as well as suspending baitfish imitations in the surf on the windblown side of the islands worked.
I was in Copano Bay on the islands between Goose Island state park and East Pocket. I was using mirrodines and mirrominnows from Mirro Lure in the Electric Chicken color or popping corks with live shrimp. You can do the popping cork with DOA shrimp but they work better if you pull the weight on them.
I would bet there is more grass up than there was when I was down and you can get better quality than I was getting if you work grass near shell reefs.
Good Luck!
Bert
