Moving to Houston, I googled "fishing the woodlands" looks amazing. Anyone ever put a yak on any of those ponds?

I am not sure, but I kind of think that only Lake Woodlands allows boats.
The ponds, though, do hold some big bass. My secretary's son... ( a long time ago)...hauled a six lbr out. She had it mounted and brought the mount into our offices for all of us to see.

p.s. Take a look at the little lake (Raven) in Huntsville State Park, just North of the Woodlands. some 10 lbrs in there, if you don't mind a few gators watching.

p.s. We have a NW Houston TKF KayakFisherman group. Next meeting is at ACK's (Austin Canoe & Kayak) new store is on I-45; just South of where the Hardy Street tollway crosses i-45. It can be a puzzle to get to, but it can be done.
Next meeting is next Tuesday June 4, (8 days) at 7 p.m. Come on by. I won't be there, but I am the "co-ordinator". PM me your email address if you want to be put on the reminder list. Rich

I've lived in The Woodlands for 4 years, and there is plenty of fishing to be done here. Heck, I just got off the water at Bear Branch Reservoir and we landed about 15 bass. Lake Woodlands is alright, but there is so many people that fish it. In the past two days I've seen 3 people on bear branch. Bear Branch is all natural with Hydrilla, CoonTail, stumps, trees, and islands. While Lake Woodlands is man made and has maybe a 100 ft section of decent timber. We go yakkin about twice a week. Let me know if you have any questions!

Yes rich you can, however there are only about 4 bodies of water that are a decent size to paddle. All four of them are within a 12 mile radius, so you could pond hop if you wanted to!. The only Pond you need to worry about is lake Harrison, due to the golf course. I recommend not kayaking that lake. If you find yourself wanting to fish, but not drag out the kayak. You are never more than 5 miles from some ponds that will supply your fix! There are numerous little "tickhole's" that hold some very nice bass, crappie and catfish.
