A few buddies and I have a Texoma trip planned for this Friday and Saturday. All the forecasts keep showing 15-30 mph winds. Is that too windy to be out there? This won't be my first time on the lake, but it will be my first time on it in my boat. I've got an 18 ft Four Winns fish & ski. I'd be interested to know what any of the guides are thinking about this weekend for their own trips as far as the wind is concerned. I'd also be interested to hear from anyone that may have a similar boat to mine. Thanks for any advice or info any of you could provide.

yes. Most guides have bigger boats than that and are far more experienced in dealing with windy days than the weekend fisherman.

You might be able to go early and get off the water before the wind picks up too much. There are a lot of variables--do you have a trolling motor--if so how big? where do you plan on fishing? I want to go up there this weekend too but 30 mph wind and a recently broke leg dont mix well.

If the wind is that high out of the South or Southwest I lanch at Cedar bayou or Juniper Point and fish that area it is pretty well protected from the South winds. Same as true for other areas as well I'm sure.

My 2 cents. 30 mph ummmm no. Don't care what size boat ya have. 15 mph you can find spots to hide and fish. Be careful, the fish will be on Texoma next week.

Just spent 2 days at the big pond, 21' center console, 30 is way too much wind. We found fish in protected areas but getting there in an 18'er would be a beating.
It ain't easy making it look easy.

30 forecast really means an avg of 30+, some more some less. 35+ gusts or more would be expected. There is a reason why the locals call it Texocean. I would pass on that trip and have several times. I am fishing tomorrow there in a 24' CC and yes thinking about the 20 gusts, there are spots there in mid lake 1' deep with big waves they are impossible to see, get on sandbar big wave = boat full of water! Moe is right, 30 forcast=NO GO for me. I have personal friends that have a guide business there and 30 is a no go day like last week, 3 days cancelled all trips. Be safe if you go and have a great trip.

I have a two man sea eagle Fold cat catamaran boat. I've accidentally been on Texoma when we had 30+ MPH winds when the weather man missed his forecast. My rule that saved me was "if the wind is from the south, fish Texas side, if from the north, go to OK. No way I'd go out there if they are forecasting that.
Even on the Texas side, the waves and wind coming around those points will be extreme. My little boat cannot sink, as it has no hull but I've had the wind lift the front up and threaten to turn me turtle. ( I was heading back) I personally think it would have been dangerous even in a 20 foot boat that day. The waves looked like the Atlantic even though I was on the south side where it was coming from. On the OKie side after going across the lake and hitting that shallow area... probably would sink most boats. Fish will probably be more on the rough side, as the shad will be driven over there.

Thanks for all the replies. I think we're going to head up regardless of the weather just to get away. Hopefully the wind will die down and we can hit the water without any worries. We'll be going out of Highport both days. Any other helpful tips on Texoma for this weekend would still be appreciated.

I haven't been there for a couple of weeks but, i would hit the water as early as possible and look for shore birds working the spawning shad. Throw topwaters at them. Once the sun pops up that bite is usually over unless you have cloud cover. If you are smart about it, texoma is one of the easiest lakes for me to hide from the wind and still fish.
I hate photobucket.

I am heading up there this weekend for a Friday night through Sunday morning fishing/camping trip at Juniper Point East. Pickup up some extra top-water lures at BPS today. Looks like the wind is going to be 14 to 20 over the weekend. Lets keep our fingers crossed that it won't be any higher.

Hey guys I am coming up next week to Texoma and it looks like the forecast is for 17 mph winds on tues/weds. I got a 22 ft blue wave do you think it will be safe out there? Just asking because I have not had alot of time on the water there and one of the places I fish gets real dangerous when winds are over 20mph.

I fish Texoma all the time and that forcast is pushing it, you can get out of it but I have seen it more than forcasted almost every time, yesterday was WAAAY more than forcasted. A wet ride coming it, fished from 6:30 to 2.
