Anyone been catching any striper in the river? Not necessarily right below the dam, anywhere in the river? Going to be kayaking down the river this weekend, any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Please be aware that all of the Red except a hundred yards or so down stream from the dam belongs to Oklahoma and requires an Oklahoma fishing license. I am not sure what the measurement is but not far down stream. I would hate to see you ticketed for not having the correct license. I wish I had information about the river, good luck on your trip.

The Texas side ends about as far as you can drive down the parking lot on the Texas side - ok, that sounds stupid but it's the best I can do. If floating/fishing beyond that (which it sounds like is the plan), you need an OK license. A Texoma license does no good - this is the Red River, not Texoma.

Texoma license no good. TX license on the TX bank up to Shawnee Creek. The rest requires an OK license.

The parking lot ends at Shawnee creek. So does Texas.

The ONLY reason to fish with a fly rod in Texas is to throw a POPPER, casting any other type fly just means you're doing something.

I knew about the license, I have an OK license. By the way, even if you are near the park lot or whatever, if you put your feet in the water while you cast you need an OK license. I had a GW tell me to be sure to keep my feet dry if I only had a TX license. The state line basically follows the south bank. I'm guessing by the lack of response that I may be wasting my time even trying... I'll just troll some swimbaits behind my kayak while we head to our campsite and hope for a couple hits. We'll be mostly catfishing for dinner and gar fishing for fun, but was hoping to hook into a few striper for dinner. Wish me luck!

You can catch em under 14inches one after another, the school is usaully on the ok side, fish from the beach and try all over the island, there not big but they are there, its a fly fisherman paradise, but don't expect to hook a big striper till we get a lot of generation, 40lb buffs are by the millions down there, also you have a chance at big cats also, as far as striper, I'd fish the lake on either the south tip of burns run or the north tip, but the red river is dead right now

We won't be at the dam, I'll be further down river. We're going to try for buffs, big cats, and gar too. Just hoping for a few striper filets for dinner. I figure if I'm trolling two shad swimbaits for 5 miles, I'm bound to get a couple hits?!
But that may be overly optimistic haha. Why haven't they been generating? Do they not do it during the winter, or is the lake just too low?
