Hey there folks! Fishing is still fast and furious on Ray Hub so lets dive into it! I plan on updating this page throughout the month so check back often for daily updates.
Starting back around the 19th the fish were still moving around in deep water down south. Water temps were still holding around 52ish and they are loving life getting fat and happy in 38ft water. The key for me to find them has been finding the large balls of shad...i'm talking HUGE balls of shad
Usually the fish are nearby but not always. I cant even begin to say how much i've had to depend on my graph the last week or two.
Think i'm gonna need another round of lasik! BUT...once we find them the fishing has been nonstop. I can honestly say that once you find the herd of fish you can limit out in less than an hour. Good times!
I'm still using Moe's big Godfather slabs and flies tied above. The size really hasnt mattered as much as the speed of your working it and your ability to hold it at a certain depth. Windier days I might use the 2oz...calmer days maybe the 1oz. It really hasnt mattered though.
The bite has been a little bit of a modified deadstick. We have caught a few holding em still but the better bite has been with a slow lift at whatever depth you see the fish at. Bottom line, when you see fish, keep changing something until they bite! Theyre getting ready to spawn and will bite when u give it to them right.
Sometime around the 22nd the water temp bumped up a couple of degrees and the fish went mobile. I'm talking like Hillary at a Senate hearing...GONE! lol! They ended up moving from 38ft up toward 32ft in a hurry. Seemed to me the same huge groups of fish were still clumped up but they had definitely moved up towards the creeks. They stayed put until yesterday
The 23rd I had Mr. Jerald Haynes out with his family and grandson. About halfway through the day we ended up hooking into this chunk of a hybrid! Ended up being a few ounces short of the Jr. lake record....guess he'll have to come back for another try
Had to take tuesday and wednesday off cause of the wind so it was off to the ranch for pig-wild. Lucky for Mr. Piggy he got wise and stayed in the river bed and didnt make an appearance...too bad
Started back off again thursday and had a hunch it might be a weird day cause of the colder weather. Ended up searching through the area the fish had moved up into and BAM! POW! gone.
Took the better part of a few hours to relocate them sneaky swimmers but we finally found em and boy they were hungry! They definitelty moved back to deep water but they didnt go back to where they had been most of the winter. Imagine that
Guess it was a falst start to the creeks? We'll see
Today was another deepwater day and it was spectacular. Had a crew of 4 and we limited in around an hour and a half and wacked em solid for another two hours until it slowed a little. I think they were more interested in hitting the sauce at Primo's and knew I had at least an hour of fish cleaning before they could get outta there
Kenny is a veteran of the Iraq War and is a heck of a guy. If I didnt tell you today Kevin, I appreciate your service and sacrifice to our country. You're a real American hero and it was a pleasure fishing with you today.
Folks if you want to have a great time on a great fishing lake and fill your freezer, give me a call! I'm on the lake 5 days a week and will put you on fish. Thanks!!!
