Going to Ray Roberts this weekend. Bought a new RV so gonna stay at Isle DuBois State Park. Have not fished Ray Roberts in several years. Was wondering if anyone could give me any info on hot spots- taking the kids so I would like to catch something, doesn't really matter what.

You got a spot at the RV park? We were looking a couple of weeks back and it looked booked solid...

When you leave the State Park go back to the left like you are going to the dam and go back up into State Park Cove you will be heading East. Go back up into the cove until you find the last little pocket with telephone posts on the right side or south side of the cove, once you get about in the middle of that cove turn back to the North and drive straight to the water tower at the State Park and drive straight towards it, watch your depth finder you will bottom out in the middle of the channel at about 35' or more and when you cross over the brush pile throw out your anchor and maybe a marker bouy. Its a very large brush pile and I have caught plenty of crappie on it using minnows.
The brush pile is marked up on some of the lake maps, but that is the easiest way that I can explain how to find it. It will end up being on the the north side of the dead middle of the cove.
If that doesn't produce. Just troll with crank baits and rattle traps in that cove and every time you catch a sandbass take note of the depth and location, you will establish a pattern and the kids won't be 100% too bored.

The Core built at least 50 of them while they were building the lake. You can find them easy with some of the maps that are out like Hot Spot. They are no secret. Some of them are are over 100' accross and they do hold fish. This one happens to be in a cove out of the north wind that is going to be cold on this poor guy's children, I'm simply helping the guy out. There are some better ones out there, but are not protected from the north wind.

Someone wants to give a pointer to a guy taking kids fishing I say good on him.

It's not like the RR Brushpiles are a National Secret.

Yes I know....everyone calm down it was just a joke! Geeze! Helping each other enjoy fishing more is what the TFF is all about. I just hadn't seen a public response (as opposed to a pm) with such detail. By all means I wish everyone great fun on RR this weekend! whip

Hey bass dreamer, I know you ment no harm, tell me about that picture in on the bottom of your post. That is one huge belley on that bass. It looks like one you would see on one of those giants that come out of California. Where did you catch it? How big was was it?

Caught her at Palestine on a talon finesse jig with a baby brushhog trailer. I got a fiberglass mount made cause she just looked picture perfect! Needless to say I now have a whole box full of those jigs! She hit like a crappie (just picked it up with slack) but when she came up my partner was so excited he pulled the net handle apart trying to get it ready!

I haven't been on RR in a while but sand branch used to be a good spot for a mixed bag as well. Work the west side and stay right along the break line for crappie or bass.

Have fun and be safe!

I saw last weeks episode of Honey Hole on Palestine and Im gonna have to do that lake once in February. My problem is, if I get down that way my truck automatically goes to Athens.

You did not mention how big the bass was.

Go up indian or wolf and look for the warmest water you can find. This time of the year on RayBob, a couple of degrees can be the key. Also, look at Lick or Walnut. Good fishing.
