I've been using swim jigs, but I just seem to use them as a swimbait head. I put a swimbait on it, throw it out, and swim it in. I normally use a watermelon red, chart/sexy, or the burnt orange colors.
Does anyone use traditional, black, blue, colors? More importantly does anyone have tricks on how to work them?
like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

Black and Blue works great when the water is stained or on overcast days.

I always use the White Jig/skirt with the White Skinnydipper style trailer. Haven't had any luck with the other colors.

Don't get too hung up on shad colors unless that's already your confidence thing. Lots of the darker, more jig-like colors work great as well. Some of our local anglers use unexpected jig-like colors that would absolutely never EVER sell in a store. Darker bream colors are a great way to start building confidence in jig-like colors.
In general swim jigs work great around grass, and if you can pop them off an outer grassline associated with a ditch this time of year - hold on!

I use white, chartreuse, and green pumpkins depending on conditions. I always let the fish tell me what they want but I will start out reeling steady and shaking my rod tip. Good luck ! The swim jig bite is fun!
