Does anyone know if the hybrids are shallow enough to get with flies at Tawakoni or any other lake in the area?

Do you mean this time of year, or do you mean ever? I don't know either answer for certain, but I'm guessing they aren't on top right now, but will be in the coming months.

I will be in the Dallas area the middle of March and was looking to do some fly fishing from a shoreline or a creek bank. I don't have a boat but I don't mind hiking a bit to get into hybrids or sandies.

Because of the way hybrids and whites/sandies chase shad as their primary food source in open water, it's going to be challenging to get within casting distance of them from the bank. That being said, a couple of folks have posted on here over the years about lucking into a school from the bank.

The exception to that behavior happens during the spawn, but I'm not sure if they'll still be in the creeks at that point.

Hopefully one of those more knowledgeable folks will happen along and give you something a bit more concrete than I have.

Thanks. Up here in Colorado, our hybrids (we call them Wipers) follow the gizzard shad into the shallows in late spring when the shad are spawning. The action can be fast and furious for waders and yakkers. I was hoping to get into something like that down in Texas. I will be fishing the flats around Port A in March, and thought I might swing through Dallas, where I grew up.

This is absolutey the best time of year to fly fish for reservoir hybrids and striped bass, continuing through May/June - weather dependent.
The big females will be on structure following shad into warming water. Males usually go up-stream weeks before the females.
Sinking fly lines and shooting heads are my preference.
~5 inch Spinsters and Flashtail Jig Hook Clousers worked well for me.
Most of my experience for Texoma stripers but our pond hybrids follow the same pattern.

10-4. I am assuming the shad there are thread fins, and I have patterns for them. I am bringing a 7-weight switch rod that I get pretty good distance out of with a sink tip.

For hybrids from shore hit proctor when the shad spawn depending on weather early April mid may it seems. Very early in the morning they will swim on the bank after shad.

If you don't mind a little hiking and exploring bank access for Lake Texoma stripers, marina fishing should be getting good this time of year - as mentioned it all depends on threadfin shad seeking warming water.

Eisenhower Marina was always a February favorite of mine if birds present - sun on tin roofs of boat slips warm water a couple of degrees, attracting shad.

If no birds sitting on tin roofs, go to Highport and/or Mill Creek. There is shoreline access but you'll have to explore.

Proctor is in proctor texas lol. Comanche county some years is has the second highest number stocked behind chambers. The only thing is proctor is a rain drop compared to chambers. Proctor has the best shad population in texas period, lots of agriculture leads to high fertility alge bloom and shad out the gazoo. Was getting the boat ready by the ramp one day kept hearing waves then we realized there was no wind. Looked back to see shad flopping all over the bank. We hammered them right there for two an a half hours no other trucks pulled up. We never moved and never launched the boat lol. Sowell creek park few bucks to get in go to boat ramp and fish your way along the dam. There is a fishing area on that side of the dam only accessible by foot or boat across the dam from there is another park. It can get crowded there is a parking lot right there. If its good you will be beat half way down the rip rap though lol. The parks open late to me so if you can I would camp in the park and hit them well before first light especially on a full moon. Hope this helps.

X2 for Proctor. Used to fish it all the time and startin in late March the hybrids and whites will start moving up shallow. Target shorelines with a gradual bank as well as wind blown banks and points and you won't have any problem catching them. Late April to early May is probably best depending on temps.
