I have seen many posts from you on how much you hate Mary's. Where do you like to go go for a CFS? Did you mouth off at Mary's and get your arse kicked or what? I have never seen someone so hell bent on shat talking a restaurant, damn.

Rancho Martinez restaurant in Lakewood area of Dallas has a great chicken fried steak that is a little different because it is covered in chili. It is really good.

I went to Matt's Rancho Martinez in Cedar Hill about a year ago and tried the chicken fried steak with chili, cheese and onions. They call it the "Cowboy". Was awesome. They have 4 kinds of CFS, and i want to try this:
TAMPIQUENO STYLE
Topped with spicy tomatillo sauce,
sour cream & Monterrey Jack
cheese served with beans & rice.
Wash it down with a Shiner Bock on tap. Cant go wrong.

Best weather on the planet!

Hit Mary's Cafe yesterday for lunch. Huge portions and great as always but 2 medium CFS & 2 iced teas ran us $35 bucks. ($42 with tip) I can deal with the cost insrease since I only get out there a couple of times a year, but Mary's is definitely starting to get a little pricey.

that's the way I get it every time. If you go on Tuesday they have their lunch menu all day and into the evening. So, you can get it for 7.95 i think for dinner. I get the CFS was the tampiqueno sauce and beans and rice. I also ask for some chopped fresh onions for the top. It's the best CFS you can get in Dallas, in my opinion. The new Matt's in Lakewood is at Skillman and Abrams. It moved, but it's as good as it ever was.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I just got out of the hospital after getting my arse kicked by 2 biker chicks for mouthing off about how bad the CFS is in Mary's Cafe. whip

Where do I go for CFS? I can name numerous places that IMHO have better CFS than Mary's.
New York on the Hill on I20 at Thurber has better CFS.
Love and War in Texas has a much better CFS.
Meca Cafe on Harry Hines had a better CFS.
Moma's Daughter's Diner on Harry Hines had a better CFS.
Sissy's Cafe in Breckenridge has better CFS.
Heck even Earnies Spanish Kitchen in Breckenridge has better CFS.
I think my granddaughter could make better CFS in her Easy Bake Oven.

Well, that last one might be a little bit of a stretch .......... I don't have a granddaughter. clap

I'll have to disagree, in my opinion, with you on that one. I haven't been to every place you listed but to the ones I have been to:

New York Hill: The cfs is good and I like the way the serve it better, in the sense you can get mashed potatoes and green beans. The tenderness and the taste just isn't there for me compared to Mary's though. The price is much better though.

Love and War: You've got to be kidding. The only thing that is comparable is the price. Love and War has very good jalapeno gravy, I will say that. They have to though to cover up that CFS.

The Mecca has always been a decent lunch, but a better breakfast. Now that they've moved to Lakewood they had to double their price. You can't get a plate of eggs and bacon and their delicious biscuits for less that 10 bucks out the door. The CFS is okay, in my opinion. Never fantastic or even really good. Just okay. As my crude grandpaw used to say: it'll make a turd.

Mamas: I've never seen what the big deal is about any of the Mamas Daughters. Again, like The Mecca, okay but no big deal.

Mary's let me down for a few years and I stopped going. Flosies, or however it's spelled, that used to be across the street from them had a pretty good CFS. Maybe better at times. When Mary's got back on track they've been as good or better than they ever have been. The wait is ridiculous sometimes and the price has certainly got out of hand for me.

I miss Goodson's I remember when they were in the house east of town back in the 80's.
