Moving down to Fredericksburg in a month to do a short term teaching stint. Anyone know of any public water around there that will fulfill my need to catch good largemouth? I know Ivie and Amistad aren't too far, but with teaching and livestock shows I'd want to be in a 30 mile diameter of town if possible.

I would go to Kerrville and check out the city park and the Guad. River. Do you have a kayak? Great river to fish... Good Luck

PS. Ivie and Amistad will be three hours away at best.

You can go to Lake Buchanan, Lake LBJ and Inks. They are not to far from Fredericksburg.

Ivie is only 30 miles or so from Brady, and it took me just over an hour to get to brady when I drove through the other night.

Choke is about two hours from fredericksburg, that's my hometown. There is also the fritztown bass club that has monthly tournaments. LBJ is your best bet right now for close by fishing. Some of the best spots to fish there are where the llano and colorado river meet .

Member of Fritztown Bass Club here...Lake LBJ, Marble Falls and Canyon Lake are close and are all good fisheries. There is Flat Rock lake and a couple of others (dammed up pieces of the Guadalupe River) in Kerrville, you can put a bass boat in there but I would recomend idleing. Also, a member of our club puts on a weekly working mans tourney in Kerrville on Wednesday nights. If you would like to know more about the area, we have our monthly meetings the first Monday of every month at the EMT station on Frendship lane in Fredericksburg.

Thank y'all for the help so far. With student teaching I'll be pretty busy but will have all my gear with me. I'm gonna be starting the Fredericksburg High School Bass Fishing Club as well, so I'm gonna tell them about Fritztown Bass Club to give them an external access to the bass fishing world.

Brady lake used to be awesome in the 90's. Caught a 34lb. 5 fish stringer in 3 hrs. on good Friday in 1997. Used to have lots of big fish but not sure what it's like now or how much water it's got in it. It's about an hour from F'burg home of the battlin billies.
