Im looking at replacing my folding anchor with a ball anchor. I'm just wondering if any one uses one of these at what you think of them. I've seen the 3 pound one but also have seen larger weights. Is a 3 pounds enough or would a higher weight be better? Thinking about buying a mold and making my own.

Where are you planning to use it? A ball anchor isn't going to hold you in your average Texas wind. Good for areas where you might get hung up or on rivers where you want it to slow your drift but not get hung. There is no one design f anchor for every situation like there is no single kayak for every situation.

I fish creeks and rivers 99% of the time.

Spiny is right, I had a 3 pound ball anchor and it would not hold me in the wind...I could have just used a drag chain. However a 5 pound mushroom anchor seems to work well. I still prefer a 3 pound folding anchor, and be sure you rig it correctly or you'll loose a lot of anchors.
