I posted in this thread about my 11 y/o son winning his middle school bass club's contest.

What I found out was that the gentleman running the club, you all may know him as big water here on the forum, is running it all out of his own pocket.

big water, aka Norman, received permission from the school district earlier this year to start up a fishing club for the Sulphur Springs Middle School in addition to the high school club he's already running. Norman has since been bringing the joy of fishing to new kids every week. You can read a little of his success in this thread I highly recommend you read it. Stuff like this is why we all fish in my opinion.

They have bimonthly meetings weather permitting and Norman has been trying every time to make each meeting interesting and exciting for the kids.

A lot of these kids have never fished before and Normal pulls up in his truck and loans all the kids who don't have their own stuff his own personal rods and reels and tackle.

Now that is very generous of him, but I believe he last said he had somewhere around 66 kids at the last meeting.

Additionally he has been running month long contests as well as daily contests and giving out prizes for the biggest fish. My son won the November monthly contest and that's when I found out Norman was footing the bill for everything out of his own pocket.

Because of the logistics of taking a bunch of inexperienced kids fishing with limited adult supervision the meetings have been restricted to pond fishing and community lakes. Unluckily this has not contributed to just a whole lot of fish being caught regularly. Norman's contests have gone a long way in keeping young boys and girls who get eagerly discouraged interested in our sport and coming back for more.

Now I know that TFF is a wonderful fishing community that has given to many good causes over the year. If this isn't a good cause I don't know what is.

I talked to Norman about volunteering to help garner contributions and donations to the Sulphur Springs Middle School Bass Club. So it's with his permission I'm coming to the TFF.

If anyone would like to donate or contribute gear you can contact me here via PM or email at Jdnwaco@gmail.com
