I started a fishing club at Sulphur Springs Isd last year and this year we have been off to a great start while I don't have the number of kids I would like at the high school the Middle School is a differant matter. I have had up to thirty kids fishing at an outing. Saturday we fished at Coleman Park in Sulphur Springs. After fishing for about thirty minutes one of the kids walked over to me and said " I just can't do this I am just no good at it". The look on his was something I have not seen in a while because my kids are grown up and gone from home. It was so sad and hurt, I know you guys know that look. I sat down with him and we talked about fishing and other things. I went over how to work a Texas Rig a bit and told him that it just takes time to catch a fish but that it would come to him. Just give it more time. He still looked hurt and sad but he got up and started fishing with a friend. I walked over to another group of my kids to check on them. While i was watching them I heard someone yelling my name, i looked up and it was that little boy running toward me yelling at the top of his lungs. On the end of his line was his first ever black bass about 15 inches long. The smile on his face could have been one for the books. He never did stop talking about and must have told eveyone there how it fought and felt many times. I know he told his father several times about it when he was picked up to leave. A bass fisherman was born at Coleman Park in Sulphur Springs Saturday December 1 2012, and best of all I got to see it in person.
I am sorry for the long read but i just had to pass this along. Your friend Norman Sanders.

Excellent job Big Water. I taught a fishing class in Odessa for 20 years and it was very rewarding. If you need any pointers on how to raise funds for your club I will be glad to share what I did to have $10K on hand each year to keep these kids into it.

Right now the one with the largest fish caught wins a rod and reel or tackle bag that i buy out of my back pocket. We are also trying to get a tee shirt and hoodie order together. We are selling them at cost for now. So far its been great

That's awesome man. Guys like you that go the extra mile for kids are what's going to keep this sport alive in this tech-addicted world. Ipads are neat but the outdoors will never be replaced. Kudos sir and keep up the good work.

Thanks Big Water for starting the fishing team. I know that my grandson thinks the world of you. He loves to fish. I will be glad to help out at the outings if you need any help. If there are any kids that do not have any fishing equipment, maybe we can get some of the TFF members to help out. I know that I have alot of extra baits that I could give the kids. Just let me know if you need any help. Maybe some of the local guides would come to some of your meetings and talk to the kids about getting into fishing. Thanks again for starting up the fishing team.
