Today, I had the pleasure of fishing with Ben Tedrick from Bryan, TX. We fished the Yegua Creek above lake Somerville. Let me just start by saying this was one of the best days fishing (and catching) I've had in awhile. Ben and I started by dragging our kayaks roughly 200 yards down to the low water crossing at Newmans Bottom. We paddled downstream, fishing as we went along. For about the first half hour it was pretty slow with a few perch and small black bass here and there. ...then Ben set the bar high by hooking into about a 5-6 pound black bass. I watched in amazement as the fish dragged him around the creek seemingly into every hang up imaginable. I really thought he was going to lose this fish, but Ben fought it like a pro. Here's a pick of Ben, and his beautiful Yegua black bass. I think both of us thought this would be the highlight of the trip, but the best was yet to come. It all started when I caught about a 6 inch Crappie, to which Ben said "Where there's one Crappie there's bound to be more". No sooner had the words left his mouth when a monster Crappie almost ripped the rod out of his hands. For about the next 3 or 4 hours we caught Crappie small & large, catfish, drum and just about every other kind of fish in the Yegua except for White Bass. Besides the great fishing it was a great day on the water. The water was about as clear as I've ever seen it. I'm sure Ben will post plenty of pics & video of this great trip, but until then here are a few I took. Ben with his massive stringer of Crappie Me with my mixed basket of crappie, catfish, & drum Awesome day, Ben!

Got fish? We do! Crappie in the fridge waiting on hot grease! Not even a busted paddle could keep us down! Aggie Engineering to the rescue!

The Crappie are still biting on Yegua. Went today and caught a ton. A lot of small ones, but managed to catch a few for the frying pan.
