Anybody know whats going on at the Trinity River and Sandy Lake road in Carrollton? They have been doing some construction there and I thought it was utility work but I noticed today they have removed all the old spillway wall and a lot of dirt on the west side. Noticed on the west side there are about 20-30 kayaks on trailers? They doing some type of rental there? Very strange place for a put in on the lower side of a spillway that never stops flowing. Plus the top side up stream is a better paddle IMO.

I heard someone at work talking about a whitewater course being built in that area.

Not completely sure, though.

The first Trinity River whitewater course is still closed to the public. I seriously hope they aren't creating another.

I used to love fishing the first 14 miles and right below that spillway, but now it is so trashy that I quit going. I still fish LLELA to Business 121 occasionally.

Correct. I walked down there yesterday to see what was up. The kayaks are just stored on the property above the construction.

Talked to the owner of that property the other day. His name is Jeff and he is going to reopen the old bait shop to sell.....bait and kayak stuff. Not sure if he will be a dealer or not. He is also going to rent kayaks and run a shuttle service for rentals and owners.
I hope he does well!

I am trying to fish the river with my dad in a 2 man 10' pond prowler but when we went to the boat ramp it had a warning sign of all sorts of dangers. Have you fished the river and is it safe??

It's safe for a kayak. I have paddled all the way up to 121. Just be weary of snakes and a lot sunken timber. My hobie cleared it just fine as long as I was paying attention. Not sure what the water level is now. The link below should tell you how much water they're letting out of the Lewisville dam.

I might add that all the warning signs are for people who get too close to the spillway. It will suck you in faster than you think. I'd stay away from it as much as possible.

Only fished it two times. Caught one dink bass. Couple of catfish tough. It's pretty murky water right now. Hopefully clears up in later winter and spring.

I've been twice fishing but both times in the dead of winter and it wasn't any good for me. If you go up river and take Denton creek to the left there is a cut on the right to a lake that looks good. I think it was an old gravel pit and I've heard good reports in the past about decent sand bass and hybrids being caught but little about LMB. FF showed lots of bait and decent fish around them when I was there but I couldn't get a bite. I've wanted to go back during the better time of the year but there are so many waters and so little time.

I've wanted to give that area a try since I got a yak but never got around to it. I think I'll put it on my list for this winter. At least it's somewhere different .
