everyone has opinions..

Here's what I'm using:

Revo STX 6:4:1

Abu Garcia Veritas 7'11" HVY action

65 lb Spiderwire

oh, and let me add.. Shoulder surgery is optional.. tossing that heavy rig takes its toll on your back and shoulder.

I throw an assault rig on a Temple Fork Outfitters GTS BBC7116-1 7'11" California swimbait rod paired with a Calais and 20lb Invizx. Any reel will do. Not a fan of braid. Stout rod is a must.

For the rod a telephone pole and I would go with 2000lb tensile strength braided steel cable for line.

A swim bait rod with heavey line. This will give you dual service, most rated 1-4 or 6 oz. for heavey weight lures.
.

One you build and fish with your own hand built custom rod you will fish with nothing else!

I'm using a 7'6" & 7'10" HVY Duckett w/ 50 or 65lb braid and I throw it a LOT!!! I have it on 6.4-1 ratio reels. A deeper spool reel is a must. It's a blast to fish for sure.

I would take the new Dobyns Champion 804 C-rig rod lots of back bone you can put what ever reel you want. I will say it is hard to be a Shimano

Duckett Special Extra Heavy 7'6" or 7'11". Developed for this application. Also good rods for heavy weight C-rigging or heavy flipping when not used for A-rigging.

MINIMUM 65 lb braid.

A good QUALITY reel, I don't think this is as critical as the reel and line, as long as it has solid guts.

I have lost too many rigs with the braid. All that weight will snap the braid on a bad backlash. Watch your rig go flying!

I ditto the TFO rod like John175 said.

I've been using a G Loomis Swimbait 956 and a Dobyns 806 swimbait rod with a 300 series reel... and I haven't gotten worn out throwing it yet! cheers

I use the TFO rod also and a Abu 5000 series reel with 80# superline.
I want the line capacity and also the engaged level wind to lessen the chance of a semi-professional overrun.

BTW, less than 80# will break during a cast if you get a backlash throwing that much weight.

Like everyone has said use a long heavy action action rod, with a reel that has a large spool on braid. Make really casts and I like to retirieve as slow as possible and still get action out the swim baits so I use a 5:4:1 reel. It's not a reaction bite they will hit with the intention to kill and eat whereas with cranks sometimes they are more or less defending themselves.
