I recently bought a used bass boat and it doesn't have a graph, and the trolling motor also SUCKS! The boat is awesome ,but both of these issues are very annoying. I have saved up some cash and need to make a decision.

I have a little more than a $1,000 to spend on either one. I am thinking either Minn-Kota fortrex or a good graph like a Humminbird 858c?

I believe you get what you pay for so I would like to go with somthing good.
Any suggestions?

Thanks!

IMO I would go with the trolling motor first, to me I believe it has a slight edge in importance. Nice cat in the sig by the way

TM!!! Doesn't matter if you can play around looking for or finding fish if you can't get to em and fish over themn all day. Fish first............research second.

If you don't have a trolling motor, a graph won't do you much good.

Get the best trolling motor you can buy first. Then between now and next summer when you really need that graph to locate deep structure and shad, scratch you some money together,do a little
research and buy you the best graph you can afford.

1) TM
2) Graph
3) If you are not proficient with a graph, hire a guide to show you how to be effective with it.

Definitely get both used if you can. Some great deals on graphs right now. If you got the 858 graph you would be wanting an 898 before too long.

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

Thanks guys! I think im going to go the TM...I also hear good things about the Minn-Kota company and I know that the fortrex is a good TM.

I can always count on TFF for advice!

Thanks for the compliment on the cat too! I am really excited to get out more and more on the water!

+1. I'd get a used Humminbird 797 or 798 in the classifieds... ($500-$650)... Then you won't need to upgrade graphs for a while. You'll have side imaging, good sonar and good mapping... And a good, used TM... at least 24v.. for $200-$600.

Bargain right and that'll be a grand very well spent! thumb
