Some of y'all might remember when they drained the lake completely dry while trying to lower the water level to put a new ramp in. They lost pretty much all the fish TPWD stocked when they did this. Well they finally got the ramp built, with $443,880 from TPWD of course. TPWD also restocked 83,000 bass last year, along with some catfish and bluegill. Here is the kicker though, that ramp that we paid for, the fish we paid for twice, can only be accessed if you have a jon boat basically. The city of Muenster has limited the lake to boats with 30hp or less.

This is a picture from a couple months ago of the nice, new half a million dollar jon boat ramp. If anybody has any pull with TPWD we need to get this 30hp limit changed. Idle only is the most logical thing to do.

there is no point on hp regulations when you have a boat ramp like that. make it idle only. even a boat with a 30hp puts out a wake.

what do the regs say? Maybe one can put in a boat with a bigger motor, but just cant use it, even at idle speed?

just asking, I don't know.

But I agree, that is ridciulous if one puts a limitation on it, with all that money invested.

That sounds pretty typical of the way people in charge now days think. No common sense AT ALL.

Whoever came up with the 30hp limit has probably never been on the water before and knows nothing about boating or fishing.

I believe the reason is because it is their drinking water and they are afraid of all the pollutants that a larger engine puts off, either way it seems stupid, should be idle only or hell you could get around with trolling motor only.

The lake did not go dry soley due to the new construction of the ramp the weather turned bad and they couldn't get anyone safely on the water to stop the drainage of the lake according to this news article:

Here's how it works fellas... One of the "bigshots", with influence regarding the rules, happens to have a john boat with a 30 HP motor. Could be the mayor or his son in law, brother in law. Something like that. Maybe I just don't trust the "system".How else did they draw 30 out of the hat. It could have been 20, 9.9, 15. No, someone in the room wanted 30.

I agree. Brother in law deal, includes his boat and motor but excluded most others.

That is fine, but they never should have used fishing license money to build that ramp then.

There was a big stink about it at a town meeting, i bet the rule gets changed down the road. Lot of the locals just changed the decals on their engine cowlings, lol.

That's a pretty sweet looking ramp and parking area for a bunch of 30hp or less boats. I'm guessing this rule was implemented after they asked for our money, drew up plans, stocked the lake twice*, and built the ramp.

*see past threads of draining debacle
