Thinking about taking the family down to the coast over Thankgiving week. Is fishing the surf any different that time of year vs. the summer? We enjoy catching anything from whiting, specs, reds, drum and anything else willing to bite. Never been down around that time and hope to still be able to catch some fish and have fun on the beach. Is sea weed an issue then? We are considering the Matagorda area instead of Port A for this trip. Any tips and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You can tear the big bull whiting up that time of year in the surf using fresh shrimp on a Carolina rig. You maya also score on some slot drum and reds and even some pompano. I'll probably try to get during that time also to G'ton or Surfside. I'll have a few days off it looks like.

I frequent PINS during the months of Sept, Oct, and Nov. The beaches are beautiful, water is clear, surf fishing is better than average, summer temps have declined a bit, and few people. Whitings are always easy to catch there, and the occasional gamefish is a bonus. Seaweed is all but gone, not like the early summer months when it piles up on shore. I've never been to the Matagorda area and no longer visit Port A, simply because the water is much more prettier out at PINS and the beach is relatively unspoiled.

I too am going to be at the coast for that week. We fish San Luis Pass almost exclusively.....It always produces some good fish for us.

Someday you need to dig up some of that money you have buried in your back yard and come down to poc and do a real saltwater trip.

If there is anything left in the yard the dog already dug it up and ate it. I can't even show my wife your videos. If we fished with you and the trip was anywhere near half of what your pics and videos show, we'd end up buying a BIG boat and moving down there for good. Been a long time since I went toe to toe with a big AJ.
