A TPWD biologist once told me that the "Catch and Release" campaign worked too well. Works for me, I'd never keep a LMB.
As for others, as long as its legal, go for it. It is not going to hurt anything. Just look at Falcon Lake, it has Mexican commercial fishing on it and it may be the best lake in the US.
Not that they all survive, but the last SAL spawned 44,000 eggs.

I'm with you there. I can do walleye or trout, but other than that, eating freshwater fish is kind of like licking a girl's armpit. A lot of people enjoy it, but it's just not for me. I'd rather enjoy a snapper.

I asked our guide one day on Falcon about all those nets and if they hurt the bass populations. He said they actually catch very few bass but load up on talapia. Who knows. One thing is for sure. Falcon is the most phenomenal bass fishing I have ever experienced. It's rated #1 in the nation for a reason.

Texoma striper will change that opinion. They have very firm meat like the saltwater game fish do. Have to cut out the blood lines. Again, this is illegal, but many use those blood lines for bait hear cleaning stations. It is a well known trick to catch big blues.

No question saltwater fish taste better than freshwater fish.

have you tried to hook the car battery to the gaf. my uncle Dim Flannery taught me that one, he was a real bright man, rest his soul. Not only does it get the job done all the sparks are real pertty!

I might have to call BS on that. While Dim was no doubt the thinking man's angler, I'm pretty sure the technique of electro-gaffing bass can be originally credited to Turk McIlroy. The fact that the man frequently fished with his pants around his ankles and used pudding for sunscreen gets him discredited in most circles these days, but you've still got to give credit where it's due.
