I agree with Mike on this one. It's frustrating to see people negligently over harvest "trophy" fish from a small lake just because they caught them. It's obvious you care more about the health and production of that fishery than some of the people who call it home.

It's a small lake/ big pond that they are talking about. I'd say 100-150 acres.

That has to be hard on a 97 acre lake. Hopefully not many people keep the trophies but opt to take home the smaller ones. I know the experts say it's good to take fish out of a lake, but I hate to see the Big Ns go, especially that many!

Round and round we go...

Mike I totally understand why you'd be upset. That place is special to you, and many others on here. That video from earlier this week is testament to that. But that guy, and everyone like him, they just don't give a damn. You can't change that. If he knew that those ten fish were the last breeding stock left in the lake and that taking them would pretty much kill the fishery, he's still gonna take them, and he'll probably give you that same sanctimonious "It's legal!" speech if you confront him. That's fine. Just wish those guys would have the balls to say what they really mean, which is that they don't give a [censored] about the resource itself, nor about anyone else's ability to use it... Funny how they never just say that when we all know that's what it all boils down to.

Good news is that the ranks of people who practice C&R and those who keep fish responsibly and "get it" far exceeds the "strip it all until they have to pass a law" crowd. We're winning! That guy and his ilk are starting to become a very small minority. thumb

I get being upset about the nice genes being takin from the water but overall i think its a good thing. I catch way to many skinny bass. I think bass fishing has become to much of a sport infact. Dont get me wrong i love fishing and it is a sport, but where i draw the line is when people get criticized for doing what fishing was originally created to do. provide food and have fun with the family. Back in the ol' days big fish ment a big meal. Times are hard now, so some people will take whatever they can get. I actually make an effort to give away the bass i catch in the thursday grapevine tournaments if i see a family on shore needing food. Or at least the kids get to see a fish in person and keep interest since there using fishing line and a tin can to hopefully bring in a fish. Its the natural circle of life because those bass are the top dogs in the water for the most part. We have to help keep the balance.

I like to eat LMB too. It's 10 LMB trophies 21" and larger (there were plenty on that stinger that were 24"), that was disappointing. Yes its legal, I never said it wasn't. So yes it is disrespecting the sport to slaughter 2 limits of trophy Large mouth bass. You wont change my mind on that. I know Im not the only one who feels that way. Legal...yes. Respectful... no..

So, you are telling me that a guy caught 10 bass all over 5 pounds, and a few were 8.5 pounds (in September). That is at least a 60 pound stringer. All from a 100 acre pond. First off, I don't buy it.

Second, if it is that big of a concern to people, then maybe we should apply the lake fork slot limit all around the state. You can easily petition the state for such rule changes.

Anyone who catches a 60 pound stringer of Bass has my respect, regardless if he releases them or eats them.

BTW, I don't really consider a 5 pound bass to be a trophy. 8 pounds is pushing that trophy size to me, but everyone has their own goals.

I am aware that you are not the only one who feels that way. I have been to Bass tourneys where the weighed in fish are harvested, even though most are released. I saw people get into arguments over this. I have also seen people argue over whether it is respectful to fish for bedding bass, saying that it damages the population. My opinion is, follow the law, and to each their own.

Huckleberry no one said there's anything wrong with culling small to medium fish out of a system. I'm actually a great believer in it. But keeping ONLY the big fish in a small public lake that is maybe 100 acres? Totally different ballgame...

Man makes lake
Man stocks fish
Man catches fish
Man eats fish

Get over this trophy business. Its arbitrary.

Clearly the dude can catch fish. Respect.

Is this a private club lake or a public body of water? If its private talk to the owner if it's public ask for special restrictions to be put in place. This is the best place to blow off steam but it doesn't do anything to really help the fishery. Call, Email, write letters. Go meet with the people in charge face to face. I feel your angst. I hate to see jug liners put out 50 jugs and keep 20 25lb bluecats. Kills the breeding stock.
