Im looking for a place to go this weekend with a friend. He is up north so we were thinking OK or AR. I have about 3 days before i head to new mexico next week. We were wanting to head down a river and camp. But more fishing than paddling! Im not that familiar with that region.

Are there any overnight paddles with camping coming from beavers bend? What about AR ?

no you dont need any tags unless you live in Oklahoma. I havent ever been farther than the 3-4 mile point past re regulation dam but I hear its nice down there.

Lower Mountain Fork is fun, mediocre fishing.

If you are further North (by Tulsa), the pumpback is one of my favorite lakes to paddle. It can be dynamite for smallmouth if they are generating. It is a lake, and you will feel the current. It is barely bigger than a pond (electric motors only), but a few hundred feet deep. They keep it at pool, generating when demand is high, and pumping back up lake when electrical demand is low.

Many of the other eastern OK regulars will be too low to float. I used to wade fish the blue, kiamichi, and glover this time of year, but it's a one man operation.

I have only paddled two rivers in Arkansas. The white below bull shoals is fantastic. Year round trout fishing, and not that many people (other than right at the dam. You can float all the way down to the boat ramp a mile upriver from the confluence with the Bufflao national river. The other river I float was the BUffalo, and it will prbably be very slow this time of year.

Buffalo River way too low this time of year. Best to go in the Spring.

The Illinois is nice but I wouldn't bother till school starts up again and thins the crowds. It's most likely running low right now.

The ouachita river is pretty nice too. I've done an 11 mile section of it

Thanks guys for the advice. We are gearing up for lmf. The flows seem to be fluctuating. I'll check before we leave for a last best guess.

Do they have a schedule like Texoma ?

This tableClick should give you a general idea of their release schedule over the last 2 weeks. Looks like it's ranging from about 150 cfs to 1100 cfs. Not too bad.

Check THIS link the DAY of your trip to see how much and what time they are generating. Generally they have made power 5 days a week. Saturday and SOME Sundays they have not run water. Occasionally they skip a day midweek.

The river south of hwy 70 is generally fine regardless of the generation schedule. Above 70 is generally always floatable but running water helps.

I ran it on Tuesday and the fishing was certainly off. No trout. One smallie. Lots of sunfish and one BIG [censored] drum that gave me a good ride.

Didn't like the camping options, we are headed to the oauchita early in the morning. Any last minute advice ?
