I like your take on the simple approach! Great post. I'm thinking about dusting off an old cane pole sitting in the garage tying on about 15' of line to it and see what happens.

and why is it if use crappie bites the yellow bass get all stupid and wear out my jigs ? piscatur says its cause i am the "king of yellow bass" .... i guess everyone needs to be the king of something ..... and simple is best ..... i just chatted with 2 different people about that today ...... i used to use a marked off cotton line with a big 1oz. sinker on it to check the depth ....depth finder i used paddles to get my flatbottom around ....big motor a stick if the water was shallow .....trolling motor and lots of times i only took a rod and reel ,hooks and sinkers as tackle .....
