If you see a storm coming, why the heck are u still on the lake? Get off immediately.
Here is why.
- a man drowned on White Rock Lake while paddle boarding when the 50 plus mph winds hit.
- 3 boats on Lake Ray Hubbard sank during the wind front
- 8 boats sank on Lake lavon.
If the waves get to big to cross the lake, beach the boat till the storm passes. Like another person said, you have all day to get back to the ramp.
Who knows how many other boats sank that just didn't report it or tell anyone.

I witnessed the mayhem on Saturday at Lewisville as the outflow winds hit the party cove area. I could clearly see the slowly moving storm front in the east and pulled my boat out long before the winds came. I could also see the outflow on radar using my smartphone and knew it was going to get ugly.
I stayed at Westlake Park for a while watching in amazement as people continued boating activities as usual as the darkness loomed on the horizon. Needless to say the wind front slammed the lake full bore and it went from dead calm to 50+ winds in a matter of 60 seconds.
It was a scary sight as fully loaded pontoon boats and ski boats attempted to get back to the ramp rather than pull to the shore and seek shelter. The majority of people did not even put on life jackets as they scrambled and waves were coming over the bow.
Trying to load your boat on the trailer in a 50+ cross wind and swells is not the safest course of action. Better yet, get off the lake when you see the storm coming!!!!
The people that did take shelter from the east wind behind the old damn were very lucky that the storm cell died out before getting to the lake as the lighting was really bad in the distance and large hail could have made matters even worse.
It was CRAZY!

I had just got home from Ray Hubbard and got a call from my brother at the slip saying how crazy it was. He loaned 2 boats ropes to tie up with in empty stalls. He had to go and told them to just throw the ropes in his boat when they left. When we went back Sunday Morning there was no ropes to be found! If you are one of the boats that took his ropes bring them back!!!!!

To my shame I was one of "those guys" on Lewisville at West Lake. I was one of the first one back to the ramp and figured I would quickly load my boat. Due to the fact I had so many problems loading I know I peeved some people wanting out but instead i think I saved them quite a hassle. Managed to get my friend out of the boat to get the truck. He backed it down the ramp and I headed in. Since this was not my first rodeo I slid it right on the trailer. Everything was going good and it was just in time as I was over ankle deep in the boat already. As we were fixing to put the strap on the problems started. A wave came and lifted my boat up and slammed it down off center and more water filled the boat. I had the bilge going and pulled the plug but we could not get it straightened out. Decided just to crank it up and pull it out. Truck could not pull it. We thought because of water weight. Had to get towed up ramp by park ranger only to find when my boat slammed down it bent my guide arm down and smashed my fender down on the tire. Had to remove tire beat out the fender well so the tire would turn. Lesson learned X 100. Thanks to all those that helped out, and to those who I may have aggravated I apologize and you are welcome.
PS if anyone finds a 10 ft fly Rod with a shimano micro spin with yellow line and a BG slab slayer jig on it Wht/Char (want to be specific) at that ramp PM me. That wave took the rod too, I found out when I got home!

Scary stuff bro. I am constantly checking weather apps when I am out. Heck, I even do it when shore fishing.

Sad part if you have spent anytime at party cove you learn real quick when you see the cruisers start to untie and head in you better follow suit. They watch those on board weather radars pretty close and know which way those storms are moving.
