It's me again, can anyone tell me where would be a good place to take the kids crab'n aroud the Jamaica beach area, and the best way to do it? I bought two Promar collapsible traps ndplanned on trying them and the old chicken neck and string. Any info would be great seeing that I'm just going off of what I did as a kid for crawdads.
Some people say fishing is boring. I say, "I'm glad they think that"....more fish for me.

I havent ever crabed that area, but anywhere there is easy access to the water, you can catch crabs. What you have should work. You can also try fish heads. I always try to keep some fish heads in the freezer for crabing or soup.

.....I use a cast net to catch some Mullet and some Shad. Either use some plastic netting you can pick up at a craft store or use a pair of your Wife's/Girlfriend's panty hose. Mash up the fish and place them inside the net/panty hose and tie it off. Take a coat hanger or some other thin wire and attach the "bait bag" to the inside of the trap so they can't drag it off.
.....works like a charm! You might also save the effort of using the cast net if you pick up some heads and guts at the local boat launch if they have a cleaning table as well!
Good Luck and hope the Kids have a great time!!
EDIT: Asking a friend that lives down there full time where you guys ought to go. Will reply after he gets back with me!
...so good it tastes like it died screaming!

Why not. I use specs and trout after they are filleted all the time. Is there documentation supporting your claim bubba gump. I don't want to break the law

The crab fishermen in Seadrift set out big garbage cans at the pub lic cleaning table to throw the leftovers into for crab bait. Nothing illegal about it.*
What *IS* illegal, spear a 12" speck with a circle hook under a popping cork to catch a bigger speck.

I was told by a game warden at galveston that it was illegal to use any part of a gamefish as bait, freshwater or saltwater, but haven't found any info supporting it......I just sumbitted a request for clarification about it to tpwd.....hopefully I can get an answer in the next few days..

ok I will try to find some canals that come off the bay side somewhere close to where we will be. Thank you all for the input, and if you think of anything else it will be great to read and learn.
