Basically I'm just letting my boat set crossways with the wind and let the wind push me. I try to make it so I cross over ledges drop offs and points. Should I fish the wind blown side of the lake as opposed to the upwind side. What can I use to slow the boat down in the water when the winds kick up. It felt like last night the 3-5mph wind was pushing me just the right speed, but as soon as it got up to 8-10mph I was drifting too fast and the bite stopped. Thanks guys for all your help, I know I have been asking a lot of questions, and I am doing my research it's just nice to get fresh input as well.
I thank God for each day!

First off remember that when you ask questions, the answers you get will help many on here that are just lurking, or are not registered yet, so ask away. You can get drift socks at Academy for under 15 bucks or use a bucket if ya don't have a drift sock yet, anything that creates drag in the water. What size boat are ya wanting to slow down?

What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

It's a 16 ft v-hull aluminum boat; it doesnt take much wind to get it going pretty quick
I thank God for each day!

Also, on the Santee cooper rig, how big is the peg float you guys use? I have tried a 4 inch peg float and it wasn't strong enough to hold a 5/0 hook and bait off the bottom...
I thank God for each day!

4 inch should be way plenty, most guys use 2 or 3 inch you dont want to float the sinker just the hook and bait.

What are you using for bait? I use two snd three inch floats and it works fine for all but the real large shad heads

2-3 inch cut shad. Maybe it is working hell idk, I tested it at the boat ramp and the hook and bait just sat in the bottom while the peg float just help up the slack in the line. I might be using too thick of a circle hook too I guess, time for a gear over haul
I thank God for each day!

Put the cork closer to the hook.

Put the cork closer to the hook. +1. About 3" from the hook is usually about right.

as stated slow the boat down with some buckets or socks. Socks are cheap <15$.
IMO you typically want to drift under .50 to 1 mph.
If you are using a 4 inch float that will do it, most times I only use a 2-3 inch and have no issues. I always have some lines out without floats as well. I catch a lot of fish without floats.
Having fun is hard work sometimes! Not the biggest but big enough!

if you have a bunch of 5 gal buckets laying around...i had a guy tell me he drills a 3" hole in the bottom of one and uses that as a drift sock...i've never done this though so take it with a grain of salt
