 +what size hook for whole perch?

i been catching my fair amt. of 2/3lbers. im trying to catch some 10lb + channel catfish. i want to use whole perch or use cut bait?. and what size hook. and a good place to hook the fish. thanks. oh only go bank fishing., no boat

your location in your info would help.
not so sure you are going to find many 10lb channels around here.
6/0 - 8/0 circle hooks.
cut perch or live perch.

I usually hit any creeks or rivers south of the 35 bridge to Denton.

Like danny said, in this area, you wont find alot of 10+ channel cats. But there are a good number of 10+ lb blue cats. My favorite bait for blue cats is cut fresh caught shad on a 7/0 or 8/0 gamakatsu octopus circle hook.

For big channels 4-6" perch, live goldfish are awesome, it always seems live catches bigger ones better than cut. Try a live 5-8" gizzard shad too.

I read somewhere that as Channel's mature their diet moves to solely live fish. In my experience...if i bait a trotline with live perch...and bait another with catalpa worms...the live bream line will out perform the worm line every time. I hate having to measure fish before throwing them in the ice chest...so I go with live bream when i have the option.

I like a 4/0 mustad bait hook without the barbs on the shank. I hook the live perch thru the nose sideways. Also cut bait works real well for me. I caught my biggest catfish on cut Buffalo cured in pickling salt but perch works just as well.

Oh, forgot to add, big channels love to eat mudcat, just like flatheads do. Try a 4-6" mudcat

8/0-9/0-10/0 take yo pick Agree completely with the suggestion above . + 1 I use 8'0 nearly all the time, sometimes I wish they were bigger, if I am using smaller shad I use the gamakatsu's but for live bait and really big shad I use the team Catfish 8'0's because they are bigger than the Gamakatsu's, I still catch small fish, but I am not trying to!
