At least on Fork, the small one gets me a lot more bites.

Yellow magics are the best popper I know of. I used to fish a Pop-r a lot until someone turned me on to the yellow magic and I agree it out catches the pop-r 4 to 1 easily.

What are the best colors for the YM for lakes like GV? This thread is making me tempted to take the plunge but to be honest I have fished with someone in my boat using a YM when I was throwing a Pop'R and I can assure you it was much closer to even than 4 to 1.

I was skeptical too. That was two years ago. I've fished Pop-Rs for years. Yellow Magic is far superior and worth the very high price. Don't ask me why. THEY WORK.

I also was skeptical as mentioned above. But, too many times when we only had one of them. Either my son was using and I wasn't catching anything on a Pop r. Or, I was using it and he wasn't catching anything. Now we have about 20.

Does anyone change out the hooks?

I have wanted to but am afraid that I will mess up the action. So I just touch them up with a finger nail file

Any thoughts?

Two questions:

1. What color are you guys using on Fork?

2. Many reviews say to change out the hooks. Others say the rear hook with the feathers is the key....? So which is it - and if you change it out what is the best feathered trebble?

Thanks-
Brent

The stock hooks are fine for dinks.
They are too weak for big bass + heavy cover.

I replace the rear one with a Owner Tournament Treble and the front hook with a Owner Stinger Treble.

Dang, a $15 pop-r that you have to swap hooks out on? I believe you guys that they work good, but it's just getting harder for me to justify them. Me just being a recreational fisherman, I'll probably just stick with my pop-r's.

the details like the paint job are great but to me there's two things that stand out about them. the cut of the mouth is a little different giving it the different spit and ability to kind of skitter across the top. plus on the pause it sits deeper in the water making it easier for shy fish to take a swipe at it, imo.

Gander mountain carries them. Just because its made in japan and expensive doesn't always mean it catches more fish, trust me I've got some cheap bandits that catch just as many fish as some of my lucky crafts, but this is not the case with YM's, they DO catch more fish than a stock pop'r. Someone said that rico's come close, I also like the zell pops, but they're still not a yellow magic.
