I have been trying to figure out a good way to add some extra shade to block that July sun on my boat. Had a lot of brain storms but most just gave me a headache. I have a bimini but it doesn't help that front seat. Anybody add an umbrella or something up front to block the sun. If you got an idea share it and pictures would be a big bonus.
Thanks
CP

Wear a Big Hat that covers your head & neck and log sleeve shirts and even gloves to protect your hands.

Recent studies are showing sun block does not protect you from the really bad cancers (UV Light) resulting in melanoma – shade is the key.

But I hate a top cover on the boat as a guide - folks cannot cast and presents restrictions.

So just wear sun screen and wear a Big hat to cove head and neck and long sleeve shirts to protect you from UV – or fish at night during the intense Sun of Summer – It’s so nice out there at night,

I wonder if you were to cut off one of those seat post if the inside diameter would be big enough to hold one of those umbrella post. Hmmmmm... I really like that first one, thanks for the ideas, keep em coming. I do wear a big floppy upf 50 hat but the heat is the heat and I would like to be under something if I could.

In the summer i put a patio umbrella in one of the rod holders on the console, then bungee cord the post to the rail around the windshield. Just use it for trolling or slabbing. I have caught a bunch of jokes from folks sweating out in the sun calling me a redneck, but my cost omers love it, lol....

Garden Ridge usually puts em on sale for $20.
Costco has one that matches my boat though grin

After looking at all the links and listenning to all the ideas I have finally come up with a workable idea. I took a 12 x 18 (I think) 1/2" thick cutting board that I had stuck back in the storage bldg and removed the seat from the pedestal. I carefully marked all the places that I could put a long screw and drilled out the cutting board aligning one edge with the front of the seat. This left about 6" or so behind the seat. I then went to Lowes and bought 4 new M6 bolts that were 3/4" longer than the bolts that were in the seat. I have an old ram tube from my kayak days that fit perfectly behind the seat attached to the cutting board. It will hold a golf umbrella or even a smaller patio umbrella and rotate with the seat. "Theroretically smile " I should have it all assembled tomorrow and will take some pictures if it doesn't look to stupid. Will post tomorrow if all goes well.

Well here are the pictures of what I did... I think I like it for the time being.

Drilled the cutting board, I also cut a couple of extra holes to put pliers and lip gripper in. PS: Valspar paint for plastic does not work, comes off if anything scratches on it.

Attached it to the seat

Added the Ram Ball for the Ram Tube.

Installed the seat and added the umbrella.

Let me know what you think.
