I wanted to try some nite fishing this weekend but with the wind and the holiday traffic I'm going to skip it. I will be trying it out next weekend.

We went to sunshine lake at Cartwright park in Weatherford, and right at sundown we notice thousands of minnows maybe an inch to an inch and a half long were everywhere up against the bank right under the light buy the boat ramp, and about the time we noticed them the water started boiling with crappie coming in to the dinner bell, there were even water snakes scooping them in, it was the coolest thing I have ever seen, my wife caught a good keeper on a minnow and I couldn't get them to bite on a jig, my wife caught 12 fish all together and I got skunked, again.

with the exception of the holiday weekend I have fished every friday and sat nite for 5 weeks, catching my limit each time using live minnows or sometimes even the dead ones. I have extremely bright led lights mounted on the transom that bring in huge amounts of minnows and you can actually watch the crappie shoot through the minnows from below. Its almost like cheating.

I agree with Project, water lights to attract the bait fish are key when fishing at night for crappie. It seems to take a little bit of time though from once you turn them on for the crappie to arrive.

I have a few spots where I know the crappie fishing to be pretty good so thats where I go. I usually plan on 1 to 2 hours for the fish to get there in numbers but once they show up its game on the rest of the night
