Flipp,
I'll give you my two cents on the images for what it's worth. I'm still learning how to use the use but this is how I've been using it to look for crappie....
If I'm just scanning for structure I use the side imaging function. When I see a structure I will usually mark it and then run back over it with the down image view. The view on the down image gives a better view of the height of the structure and you can also see separation of the structure to any return that would be fish. The pics above are all side image. The ones you can clearly see there were fish on the structure were on the down image pics I shot.
Also, if you haven't see it, there is a section in the General Discussion section devoted to the Hummingbird. If you have pics you'd like to have a group look at, post them there with a question. Doug watches the board and always provides great feedback.
