What do you guys think. What do you do better with? Frozen squid or live shrimp? I'm typically a live shrimp kinda guy, but lately all I can get at the bait shop are no more than 2" long. Kinda depressing. Thinking about making the switch to some squid, and wanted to get some thoughts on the subject. Targeted species: specks, reds, flounder.

Shrimp hands down....... I know they have been on the small side but I would still take small live Shrimp over Squid. We have still been catching Trout on these small Shrimp. Thats whats in the bay right now and they will eat'em

I cant stand these brown shrimp. They do catch fish. Have 32 speck fillets in freezer. I Would never use squid inshore. Catch way to many catfish. When do the regular size shrimp come back?

Those catfish are Hardheads.
Inshore, shrimp is best. Offshore, use squid.
If you can't get decent sized shrimp then simply switch over to croakers, mullet, mud minnows, menhaden, piggy perch, pinfish, etc, etc, etc.
You got to change up with what's available. Don't locked into the "Well this is the way I always do it, always have, always will" mentality.
If bait doesn't do it, then switch to lures.
Or just use small shrimp and catch hardheads.

Put 2 or 3 of those small shrimp on your hook and go "catching" !!

Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn

I'm mixed about it. My bro, a friend and I were at POC in October a couple of years back and all the bait shacks were closed at 5:30 PM. No live bait. I went to Speedy's and bought a box of frozen shrimp and frozen squid. No joke, we were set up on the big jetties by like 6:15 and all 3 of us were limited out using 1 piece of squid, no rebaiting required in 3 hours. Redfish. No oversized taken. I was amazed! Nothing the next day but rats and hardheads.

What about fresh squid? I have some squid lures and was thinking about trying to catch my own bait with them. Anyone else ever try this? If so, do you have a method for catching them?

Squid inhabit deep waters, far offshore. So unless you have the means to get there, there's not much sense in trying to catch 'em. They do come up shallow at night though.
