Anyone have experience growing bamboo? I'm in partial shade, and would like to grow a tall variety. It doesn't matter if it spreads or not.

That will come in about 6 months. Flame thrower and scorched earth come to mind.

Put the plug in.

My boss has a killer wall of bamboo along his back fence 30' tall and DENCE prefect for privecy and noise control. It is surounded by a rock stem wall that must go 2' deep, as the bamboo has remained in the "box" even when the home was empty for a number of years. It totaly adds to his backyard paradice!

Don't do it, unless you're moving within a year and don't like your neighbors! You can't burn that stuff out!

Bamboo is invasive. Don't plant it unless you can contain it as the one poster mentioned previously.

Crape myrtles will not grow as fast, but less invasive, much prettier, and will shade while letting the wind pass through. That's what we've used. Planted some babies several years ago and they're already up to the eaves. They're catawbas and pretty as all get out. They double in size every year and can handle the dry weather and droughts we have.

We had some in Hurst they were big and beautifull and were home to lots of cool lisards. But they droped thoes "flowers" all over our cars and driveway.

Not to mention the neighbors pool I felt bad for him.

One of the coolest yards I've ever seen, mainly because it was sooo different, was a lady in the M street area of east Dallas who had nothing in her backyard except for the bamboo that she keeps trimmed. It was like walking through an island wilderness.

Religion is a guy in church thinking about fishing. Relationship is a guy fishing thinking about God!
