New to Bass fishing, have fished off banks when younger, but basically new to fishing. Anyway was out at Ray Roberts this past weekend, and my brother and I are fishing back in coves and in the shallows, because thats all we have ever done. we notice boats off out more on the main lake in deeper water. What are they fishing with there? Are people using deep diving crank baits, jigging out that deep? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Just trying to learn. We drove around cove to cove passing people fishing out deeper, just wondering what they are fishing with out there.

Anglers who fish from a boat could be using a variety of different lures. Depth is a very important factor in bass fishing, but it also has a lot to do with the structure underwater. Many anglers have different preferences for baits and presentations, from spinnerbaits and crankbaits to jigs and soft plastics depending on the scenario. Many of the same lures that work in the shallows will work well in deeper water as well. So theres a chance they could even be using the same lure that you're using.

When I'm fishing 20 ft. or deeper, I like to use Spoons, heavy spinner baits, Carolina Rigged soft plastics, and Jigs. Sometimes I'll even throw a shaky head if there is some structure for me to bounce it off.
