My son graduated tech school so I'm free all the time now. I broke the bay boat and it's getting fixed. I'd like to find a good window of wind and waves so we can run the big one out to some rigs. I've never done an over night trip and think it would be a blast.

I know theres a bunch of gators in st.charles and they are very curious.A few years ago i saw a couple of guys wading about 200 yrds in front of me and saw a huge at least 12 footer behind them around 50yrds. I tried yelling at them but they didn't hear me . luckily they made to the boat and never saw him.lol

So my one goal for the year is to catch a shark. Apparently it's a good time of year. Any tips if I don't want to fish from the beach? Any chance to hook up with them in the bays? Specifically East Matagorda?

Your chances would be a lot better in West Matagorda Bay.

Targeting these sharks sounds like a lot of fun. Get some chum buckets, steel leaders, big hooks and horse meat. I'm thinking an incoming tide near one of the channels would be best. Has anyone here eaten them? Do they need to be bled out right away? Thanks,
Joe

I eat shark all the time. Great steaks on the grill. They're great fried too.

CPR large sharks for many reasons. They're the breeders, they're older and therefore contain more heavy metals in their bodies, like mercury and they're more apt to taste gamey.

Blacktips under 5 foot are best for eating IMHO. With any shark that you intend to eat, bleed by cutting the artery in it's tail. Do not cut the tail off completely. Gut it as soon as possible and ice it. You need to remove the liver to prevent urine and bile from passing from the liver to the blood to the meat.
