Shane at Southwestern Parts and Service told me all of the internal part numbers on the new Chronarch are the same as the Curado E. The only part numbers that are different are the parts that are painted. I've compared a Chronarch 50 to my Curado 50 and I can't tell any difference. I didn't disassemble them completely, but we took the handles and the right and left side covers off. They look like the same reel on the inside. I haven't looked at the new Curado.

I'd be in favor of that. Glad I have enough Chronarch 100d7's and 5's to get me another 20 years down the road.

I just bought a new chronarch.. It feels like a curado.(which is a good reel). But between the two, If you want to save some money, go with the curado..basically the same thing on the newer models. Older models ...chronarch all the way!

Chronarch is more purdy. To my eyes anyway.

To answer the question. The Curado is a better reel than most any other in the price range and the Chronarch is the best in it's price range from all accounts and the best buy on the Market for the quality that it is. I think probably the best money spent in the Shimano line up expcept maybe the Calcutta.

The problem I (and all my fishing friends) have is: Shimano has cheapened the quality of the product line.
Curado G series is no way in compared to Curado E series:
1) less bearings
2) cheapy quality

Chronarch E series is no way in compared to the older Chronarch . The new Chronarch is basically the Curado E series re-named and re-painted to white color.

I'm not sure what Shimano execs think but to me, it's not good business. This is why they cannot sell those refaced models and they have to put a big rebates (Shimano rarely did rebates on their reels) to get rid of them.

FYI, I (and also a lot of friends) are big big fan of Shimano and NONE of us bought ANY of the NEW product line yet.

If you want a new reel get the chronarch. Great little reel. Absolutely nothing wrong with the reel. Everyone bashes new models since the original green one was updated, but Ive had every model since and have no complaints. Sometimes, you just want a new reel, and if you can afford it, why not.

Newer does NOT mean better.
This is very true for the new Shimano reels
Curado G is worse than Curado E
Chronarch E is worse than Chronarch D

Let's look at the economic point of view.
Chronarch E is about the same as Curado E
Chronarch E is $200 + tax = $215 - $30 rebate = $185
You can buy a brand new in box Curado E for about $140-150 which saves you $45 bucks for other fishing stuffs smile

Never said it was better, but in no way is it any worse. I have the newer series and think its a sweet reel. Unfortunately when you walk into a store more than likely if you want a new one, you are gonna have to get the G series. Sure you can go online and hunt down a new older model but that's not the point. And no the chronach E does not have the same feel as my curado E. Whether it justifies the increase in price is up for debate.

Let me get this clear, you're telling me that:
1) Curado G series are NOT worse than Curado E series?
2) Chronarch E series are NOT worse than Chronarch D series?

These are very typical examples of how screwed up Shimano has done.

It's probably best to not compare the names and to compare at price points. It's pretty obvious that a shimano reel for $299 is going to be better than a shimano reel for $199. The G series is also less expensive than the E series curado, so expecting it to be the same or better is unrealistic. It's a good reel at it's price point and I haven't ever used a shimano I haven't liked.

The only difference is the frame platform and bearings in the handle. And that it is made in Malaysia.

I have both Curados E&G and actually like the feel of the new G better than the E. However, I have only had it for a couple of months so I am not sure how well it is going to hold up. I also have the newer model Citicas and they have performed great so far. I have caught several over 5lb fishiing Ray Roberts with them and they have been great....time will tell. However, I still like Chronarch 100D7's the best.
