If you go 16, then you cannot stop at a wallyworld, HEB or the an Academy. LOL. These are all in Laredo.

This ^ 1604 is a parking lot at this time of day...you'll at least be moving through town headed south. Bring your patience though.

I prefer the 35 route. There are some rough spots as you transition to 83 in Laredo because of the construction, but it's only for about a mile.

From Abilene take 83 like panhandle said, only bad part is going thru Laredo. Pretty drive thru part of the hill country.

I live in San Antonio and used to always take 16 to Zapata. That was until I got really tired of the oil field trucks and roads that are getting rough. I recently tried 35 to Laredo and cut off at the Bob Bullock loop instead of going all the way through Laredo. Very nice! I will take 35 from now on.

As Lure Chunker said take Bob Bullock Loop { Loop 20} around Laredo and you are good to go all the way. This is the way I go from Pampa,Tx
