I know fishing the Spinnerbait is not in style, but it still catches fish. Way more fish than people give it credit for. It's popularity will come around again, I promise. And when it does, you should be ready! Heck, you should be ready before that and start throwing one again now.

Here is how to choose the best rod for spinnerbait fishing:

No problem. I like to write stuff that might help people catch more fish. When I do, I will post it on this forum. Hopefully I can help make someones fishing experience better, and bring more people to the sport!

I found spinner baits of all colors on sale at the Walmart in Rowlett for a buck! That's as cheap as i've seen them. I stocked up because I seem to have awesome luck with spinner baits. I'm a fan of the colorado blades myself.

If you didn't notice, there is a link to How to Choose a Jig Rod (http://phkellnerfishing.blogspot.com/2012/04/rod-selection-how-to-choose-jig-rod.html) and How to Choose a Crankbait Rod (http://phkellnerfishing.blogspot.com/2012/04/rod-slection-how-to-choose-crankbait.html) as well. Check those out for a little more info. I will get more "How To's" up soon. So, if you want, "follow" the blog, it helps me out too.

Huh, nobody ever told me that spinnerbaits weren't in style. I always have one tied on usually a white shad stainless Terminator.

Spinnerbaits are a staple of fishing. Not everyone has great success with one because there are tricks as to key places to cast a spinnerbait, times to use one, and choice of which spinnerbait to throw based on seasonal patters/water color/ bait size and color and so on.

Many tournaments are still won with a spinnerbait however you see many times where a couple fish where caught on a spinnerbait and a couple on something else so the spinnerbait is not taking front standing. The classic in 2009 and 2011 are perfect examples. In 2009 Skeet Reese won not only with the crazy legs chigger craw but also with the spinnerbait he has from Lucky Craft. In 2011 KVD won not just with the squarebill but with a spinnerbait since thats what he caught most of his fish the first day or two.

The spinnerbait is the first bait I really learned to throw and work well. Its been a great bass producer for years now and ultimately won't go away anytime soon because it produces. Back 25-35 years ago it may have been the main bait of 90% of those on the water since back then you didn't have as many techniques and baits as you do now. You look back and it wasn't long ago that swimbaits, chatterbaits and many soft plastics came out and where all the craze like the a-rig is now. Ultimately about 5 basic techniques will work most times if you know some tricks to getting the most out of them. They are spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs, t-rig, and c-rig. Not too many situations where 1 of those 5 won't produce a few fish.

I dont have a spinnerbait rod. I have four spinnerbait rods. This is because I fish spinnerbaits from 1/8th ounce, all the way up to a three ounce spinnerbaits. One rod is simply not going to cut the muster. I typically use a 6 foot 9 inch rod with medium-light power and extra fast action for the smallest ones. For 1/4th ounce, and 3/8th ounce baits Ill go with a fast action medium power that is 6 feet even in length. For 1/2 ounce through 3/4ths ounce I use a sever foot medium fast action. For the really big guns Ill go over to a moderate-fast action 7 and half foot to eight foot, rod in an heavy power for the 2 and 3 ounce ledgebusters.

Above all else hold these two things in the greatest of circumspection; government and self.

I agree, if you have the opportunity, more rods are necessary to cover the different fishing situations. I fish a 6' or 6'6" medium or medium light when I am throwing spinnerbaits in the river depending on the size of the spinnerbait. My whole goal in writing these articles was to try and break it down as easily as possible to one rod. In case someone can only afford one spinnerbait rod, or is buying their first. If you could only choose one rod for spinnerbaits, what would it be?
