Hey guys I have a 90 hp evinrude and we haven't fully started it but we tried to just turn it over and when i turn the key the starter spins but doesn't kick up to turn the motor over and start. Any ideas on what it might be? Starter maybe?

Make sure your connections are good and you have close ton12 volts to your starter before you replace it! Check your voltage between positive and negative on a volt meter at d/c voltage?

Sometimes the solenoid engages the starter appendix, could be that as well?

sounds like the bendix is bad.

Spray some WD40 on the gear shaft. Many times they get gummed up and stuck so they won't spin up. Keep it lubed and you should not have the problem anymore.
