I see the purpose, but if you're using braid for a reason of not loosing a fish then what's the point! Just use mono through and through.

I use braid 80% of the time. I have other rods I string up with mono.

Why would I tie 2 ft. of mono onto my braid. Stupid

I use it religiously. Somedays it will make no difference and somedays it makes all the difference. I believe in it.

Best in clear water. The flourocarbon is generally more limp which helps the action of the bait.

Make sure you retie often.

I use them in clear water. I don't think our area lakes are clear enough for Floro? It does make a difference.

I had delayed fishing braid for months because I did not want to have to tie leaders. After talking with several people who fish straight braid I decided to give it a try its not like I'm fishing for money anyways so what would it hurt. The first day on the water with straight braid I caught 6 Black Bass on Jigs but they were all small. Which made me think maybe the BIG bass where to smart for my braided line. The next time out I caught sandies and hybrids on straight braid and caught as many if not more fish than my partner on the boat fishing mono. 3rd trip out was a black bass trip and I caught 3 fish inlcuding a 5lb Black Bass off the RipRap on Hubbard. Soooo....I said all of that to say that on Ray Hubbard I think a leader is a waste of time and money!! Go straight Braid and never look back!!

I'm gonna disagree with u on that one. I say tie a 5ft leader and get the best of both worlds. Don't be lazy Mr Rap-ee-tappy rolfmao

I use braid all the time. Even in the creeks when the spawn is on and have had no problem with it. Of course I don't fish for black bass. But do catch one every now and then on an accident lol

Thanks for sharing, Mike!! Yeah same here, straight powerPro braid for fresh and saltwater. Simple is good!

Not really stupid. Works well when your fishing near sharp structure like rocks or trees. Also, you dont have to keep cutting your main braid line and wasting it when re-tying. Flouro leader gives you the extra abrasion resistance and doesn't get snagged or cut from the fishes mouth as easy. It takes 15 secs to tie a uni/uni so its not that bad.

I use a leader on braid especially when using a fly above a slab with a dropper loop.

You Bet,

Use a leader (heavier or lighter material) what ever the situation calls for (no reason to change the main line).

I use SeaGuar 25# leader material on everything during the winter (fishing Slab or Flukes on bottom with a Jig on top). Why because catching doubles causes lots of abrasions resulting in lots of break offs. I also use it all year on the spinning reel with braided line.

I use a Uni to Uni knot to tie the main line to the leader,
Just keep what you need and release the rest, (Today Catching Trophy Blues with Fluorocarbon #25 leader – see at www.texasguidefishing.com )

Maybe not in all lakes or bodies of water does it matter, but overall you will catch more fish with a floro leader, opposed to straight braid.
Why don't you you just use floro or mono then you ask?
Some applications need braid for sensitivity, low stretch, and line management (in rivers).

If the water is clear on the coast, and you cant sneak up on fish ,sometimes you have to have this set up. Braid allows for small diameter and long casts with minimal stretch. Hard to set the hook on a fish 120' ft away with mono, and those fish will bite much better with a leader.
Typically quicker, and you tie better knots with mono too. Saves your braid, and defiantly doesn't hurt. If the sun is right, i think it can make a difference on hybs and strips in stained water too.
It may seem stupid if you only fish in one place.
