Dont look at my work too close tie from memory vision loss Just wanted to show what you can do with wig hair by teasing it to profile instead of EP scissor work. George

Have you tried holding them under hot running water? I do that with all the over/under flies I tie and it really helps blend them. The hot water also seems to give the hair a "set" and it holds it's shape better.

Haven't tried that but have done lots of pool testing. the wig hair has excellent action and keeps it shape - breaths alemost like marabou. I blend with a brush and fine tooth comb when I want it blended. Thanks for the hot water tip.

Hot water probably would work, I do that with bucktail, and feathers too. (not scalding hot though) Also some people use hair spray after the fly has been trimmed. (I have not tried that either)

It works well on EP fibers...kinda blends them and the heat seems to help. I hold the fly in forceps under hot tap water....But the EP fibers don't breath....they are pretty rigid. The wig hair you are using doesn't look nearly as course. BTW Dan Blanton had some kudos for you in his article in this Month's Fly Fishing the Salt rag.

Speaking of Marabou....I have been fooling around with big articulated flies tied with palmered marabou blood quills.... While I was recovering from Cataract surgery I bought Kelly Gallup's dvd and had at it.....They are wiggliest things I have ever seen.....add a rabbit strip and they come alive.....
Anyway George....nice flies.....you need to come on down...I know a good place to pitch them....

Thanks Budd, I like trimmed flies in clear water (tarpon) but wiggly untrimmed flies for most of our water aroung these parts. Thanks for the heads up on Blanton's "kudos" - give me a reference so I can check it out. I have learned a lot from Dan but he has learned from me as well - that's what makes this sport so great! Would love to fish with you but health issues keep my fishing close to home.

Nice flies George. You would think there would be some post holiday deals on wig hair right now too.
It's more than the catfish would do.

George, I tied up 6 of the flies. I can't wait to try them but due to my foot operation it will be after the first of year. I tied them using a 03 for the surf. As you said: you need to tease. It works. Thanks Gary
