I was looking at a talon. Any info from owners or anyone with knowledge about them.

I know 3 people that have them and all 3 have had issues, mostly with defective brackets.

Minn Kota recalled the jack plate brackets I have one of the new ones now and it is much strudyer than the old one. My only issue with the Talon is the warning alarm if you turn the igninion on witn the pole down needs to be much louder. If you are out in the wind it is next to impoaaible to hear.

I don't personally own one, but just based off people I've talked to they say the power pole is worth the extra $.

I have had one since January of this year, I have no real complaints. I bypassed the ignition alarm. It will anchor you in pretty rough water, if too much pressure gets aginst the pole it won't come up. Put a little backpressure on with your trolling motor & it will come rite up. My partner has the power pole & he has to do the same thing when anchored in rough water. I will have a Talon on my next boat. I mounted mine directly to the transom. Hope this helps.

8' Sportsman Power-Pole is 999.95, mount 160 & install is 1.5-2hr at your dealership w/ free remote offer! Also comes with dash switch that flush mounts. You are able to lower it down to get under bridges, dock walkways, garages ect, all the the press of your remote! Power-Poles have been around 10+ years, tried and true!

8' Talon is 1499.99, mount is 160, 1-2hr to install, free remotes as well. You cannot raise or lower unless you buy an extra kit, even then you must get out and turn the wing nuts. They have been around 1-2 yrs.

I think Talon has a long way to go to catch up to Power Pole.

I am surprised MinnKota came out with this poor product.

I have one, the bracket issued were all fixed before I got mine. I have had zero problems with it and love the thing. No pumps to install and the remotes are standard with the Talon. As for the poor product comment it is not poorly made at all. Mine has survived extremely rough conditions and holds my big Ranger firm. Also even though I have never had an issue with my Talon I have dealt with Minn Kota service in the past and there is none better.

I don't see anything about the Talon that would characterize it as a "poor product". Personally, I think for a first edition, so to speak, it delivers a lot for the money. I think MinnKota has a winner and expect it to get better as they get more feed back and more experience with the product.

I have a power pole that busted a hydralic line and got fluid everywhere. That is the main issue with a Power Pole. Its for sale if you want a deal on it smile

The question the original poster asked was "I was looking at a talon. Any info from owners or anyone with knowledge about them."

Didn't see him ask a question about a power pole. Your answer is a sales pitch. Try to stay on topic.

As for the original question, I own 2 Talons and have had zero problems with them. They worked out the bugs they had with the original mounts and the mount they use now is excellent. They are great units.
