Does anyone use a float tube or a one or two man boat to cast from? I saw on here someone that make a one man pontoon boat for a very good price and was wondering if feasible to fly cast from something like this?

I flycast from a bunch of little 1 man platforms. I have a float tube, a Bass Hunter boat, an Emotion Charger kayak, and my favorite my Diablo Chupacabra kayak. The Diablo is by far the most stable one of all of those but it's pretty expensive.

I certainly do not want to turn the thread into a yak discussion, but I "fly" outta a (SOT)yak everyday. I use both a 3wt and a 5wt without any problems what so ever.

Thanks Austin, I just figured that kayaks would tip over easy and a person would not want to stand up on. I just found the link for the one I was talking about, its a one person kick boat and it is 32 lbs. and $185. its made from EPS foam, looks to be light enough to carry a bit if need be? I was just not sure if they were safe to cast from being you are low to the water in the sitting position, dont need any more piercings.

I have 2 float tubes and love them both. I can fly cast out of either, without a problem.

Float tubes are wonderful! At least I think so. There is a remote chance of hooking the tube, there's always a chance of error in anything we do in life. But there are thousands of anglers fishing out of them and I have yet to read about any such accidents. YMMV

I have a 1 man pontoon fish cat with stand up platform. The tubes are tough. Very thick material. It would be hard to get a hook into but I guess possible.

My homemade EPS boat works like a dream and fly casting from it is easy. I could stand on it if I wanted, but typically just stay seated. A pair of fins and this thing is awesome on small water. No tubes to inflate or frame to assemble. It weighs about 30lbs and slides right into the back of my truck. The shoulder straps allow me to carry it and my gear in one trip...although hiking to the water on a windy day can be interesting!

Sit on the ground in the middle of your back yard and try a few casts. You'll have to change your casting stroke some. Stop your back cast a little sooner to KEEP-ETH THY BACKCAST-ETH UP-ETH!!
