My family and I will be traveling to Corpus Christi next month. I have the following questions:
1. Any suggestions for a half-day trip in the Gulf for four people? I fish a lot of freshwater but little saltwater.
2. Is Mustang State Park a good place to visit and enjoy the beach?
3. Any suggestions for lodging in/around Corpus?
Thanks for the help.
Bill

As for a guide try to get a hold of captain joe miles. www.captainjoemiles.com. He is a terrific guide. I have been using him for around 7 years. My family and I have always had a great trip.

I'd think the 8 hour I went on might be a good one. It is the daily 2-10pm trip. The 5 hour trips aren't long enough and the twelve hour might be too long. I went out of Fisherman's Wharf on the Wharfcat.
You can go to Port Aransas and you will have miles of beach to use that you won't have to pay for except for a parking permit. Mustang Island is nice too.
I stayed at the Travelodge on Avenue G in Port Aransas and it was $80 and very adequate to stay in but there are alot of places to stay as well.

It's about 30 miles from Corpus, but well worth the drive to enjoy the ambience (harbor and boat slips), nice rooms (1, 2, and 3 BR Condos) and, especially, the two lighted fishing piers at Kontiki Beach Condos. Log on to the web at www.kontikibeach.com, call the office and talk with the girls about the rates for the various rooms. The pier, again, is a REAL nice option. Condo owner Richy Ethridge really knows the Corpus/Port A charterboat situation, and might be able to steer you toward a good charter captain for your offshore fishing, too. I have never regretted staying at this place, and have sent many people over there. All came home impressed and happy. If you want more info based on my experiences, drop me a note at larry@blacksalty.com and I will help however I can. Good luck ... Larry

I am from Corpus, born and raised. Mustang Island is a nice place to stay. Nice places to stay are Port Royal and Myan Princess. Both are very close to the fish pass jetties, which can provide great fishing during the summer. Just across the road from both of these resorts is willson's cut boat ramp. This ramp leads to shamrock cove which is also very good fishing. Just north of Mustang Island is Port Aransas. This is a very swank little beach town that has cool resturants and a little night life. I am sure you can find charter boats to take you out into the gulf anywhere in Port A. Ask if you have any more questions and I will gladly answer

Best Fishing Guide in Corpus is Bill Sheka. By far the most experienced and notorius. Films fishing shows with many celebrities each year and is a blast to fish with.
