Alright guys. How much of my bass fishing experience will translate into inshore fishing? I love throwing crankbaits. I also like throwing suspending jerkbaits like rouge's and husky jerks. Spinnerbaita. Shakey Head. Texas Rig. Throwin Jigs.
The only one I know translates for sure is throwing a spook. What about prop baits, chuggers, or poppers?
It would be nice if i could use a lot of my bass gear with newer hooks and split rings...
What say you?

Spook Jrs., Chuggers and other topwaters will translate well to the coast.
A lot of people throw spinnerbaits with success for redfish, I never got into that type.
I throw the Bandit Footloose in Chrome/blue on the flats for reds and trout.
You can use shakey heads, I've thought of it, and work it as a weedless jighead with sofplastics. Should work great for sightcasting to reds, too.

People toss spinner baits for red fish? I've got to try that next time.

shallow diving jerk baits have never ever let me down!!! I prefer white body/red head...Chartruse/silver works as well... This is for specs mainly although reds will attack them as well

All your fishing skills developed on bass will make you a better saltwater fisherman. Though I don't target redfish a lot I know they will eat crankbaits and spinnerbaits like candy. Small soft plastics rigged weedless on a flutter jig and fished on some gnarly, oyster shell riddled shorelines has put a lot of flounder in my cooler. Swimming or hopping a jig is the same on Lake Falcon as it is on Lake Calciseu (though I've never used one with the weed guard, might work :)). It seems to me the main difference in salt or fresh fishing is casting distance. A few extra feet on your cast in the salt could very well be the difference in catching or not catching fish. Salt or fresh, it's just fishing. Have fun.

Back in the spring one of our members was catching reds on a gold spoon buzz bait. Can't wait to try that! I love buzz baits!

Pearls of wisdom for sure.

I know the advantage of a long cast for sure. Tht is why i usually throw long rods that load up well.

First time I went fishing for reds, I spent hours trying to catch them on dead shrimp. Finally got frustrated and started throwing a spinnerbait, because I was primarily a bass fisherman and wanted to try what I knew. First few casts I hooked up with a 21" red. After that caught a bunch more! Just like slow-rolling for bass!
