Hello Texas fisherman. I'm back. Just got done fishing at fin n feather pier and got nothing. Managed to see a dolphin very close. I didn't know they were in the bays. Back to the point, I fished with popper cork, on bottom, with Santee rig and spoon. Gonna head to charlies Pasteur or jetties in the evening. I'll be here till Thursday. Any advice on where to go or what kind of presentations? I'm looking to hit jetties, piers, wade, and surf fish. Thanks fellas.

Go to Charlie's Pasture at night and fish the lights with white colored plastics.

If your in Port A you might want to try the Bulkhead at the Ferry Landing. Fish this spot at night and if the Reds are in there you can see them hitting the surface. Bait gets pushed into the Bulkhead and Reds can be in there feeding. Seen some nice fish get pulled out from there.

A lot of fun and decent to fry up....Whiting!!! Beach surf- dead shrimp- split shot- #2 hook. cast out into the sea in waist deep or shallower water and have fun....caution Mustang Island right now is loaded with small rays in the surf, but they were not laying down just swiming around.

Thanks guys. I have some white colored plastics that I specifically chose to try at charlies. I have fished the bulkhead before and have taken decent sized reds, drums, Mack, and snapper from there. Not during the summer tho. I hit the bulkhead a few weeks ago daytime and no hits. Not to mention those lading ships suck in the water and sends it back dirtier.

Get some live shrimp and find some clean water. The specks will be there. Might try some "Gulp" shrimp too. Dead shrimp will catch reds....but also hardheads. bang

Now, Donald...please pick John Bolton for your running mate.

Caught a bunch of BIG whiting in the surf and off Charlie's Pasture pier at Port A last week in the breakers w/ a Carolina Rig using a 1/2 oz egg sinker and a #4 hook.
They will cook up really nice!!

Here's the update. Went to the bulkhead last night and no bites on shrimp or mullet. A guy next to me lost 2 runs with live crab. Went to charlies and fished the lights with no success. Everyone else was catching small trout.

So today at 11am I went to the jetties, caught a 2ft shark and a small sand trout. I used sea lice and shrimp and couldn't hook up on anything else. There was tons of baitfish in the area and I think it was makeral that were swimming on top but wouldnt hit any lures.

Looking to head back out tonight to the bulkhead. Gonna try and get some crab. Hope it works out. I leave back home tomorrow.

If Spanish Mackerel are at the jetties, tie on a gold or silver spoon and be sure to use a small steel leader, or you will be reeling in slack line and losing a lot of spoons, lol (learned the hard way). Cast it out and reel it as fast as you can, they will crush it. Watch out for the birds though, they seem to hone in on the spoon right under the surface and will dive for it too, lol, ask me how I know!

My Mom caught the seagull, I managed to catch an extremely large pelican that got tangled in the line.. What a mess that was. By the way, they aren't real happy when you reel them in either, mine was actually flying in, lol..

Ha bet that was a scene! If one starts to swoop down can I make a bunch of noise to frighten it? Or will that frighten the fish just as much?

I doubt it would really bother the fish. Now, if/when I see a bird heading towards my bait, I just reel it faster or give it a sharp jerk to yank it out of the water. It's not something that happens all the time but I've been covered in birds on occasion when fishing the jetties and the Spanish Macks are pushing bait up and the birds are diving for the bait.
