Has anyone been fishing Baffin the past week or two? My dad and I are planning on bringing the boat down next weekend to fish Baffin, the landcut, Corpus Christi Bay, etc. and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me.

We moved away from Corpus about 20 years ago and have been down there to fish once every couple of years. Bought a Mako 2201 back in '08 and it still hasn't seen the saltwater. Been just using it to bass fish some, but now we're ready to get down to the bay.

I was curious to see if there were any places to avoid, also what the bait situation is like right now. Is it hard to find croaker or other live bait? Shrimp and croaker still the deal or is there something else worth trying? Doubt we will be fishing artificial much, but I wanted to get some advice on what kind of artificial bait I might try.

My dad knows a lot about saltwater fishing, but I consider myself to be very much a novice so any tips you guys have for a beginner would be great. Thanks!

If your fishing the Cut find the grass line and concentrate along the grass line on the west shoreline of the Cut. Free line your Croaker or Piggy at the drop off, along the grass line. This technique should produce some Trout. While fishing the Cut, and you have some Skipjack cut a chunk, and fish the bottom for Reds. If there are, any Reds around you will catch em. Skipjack can put a couple in the box for you.
Yarborough area behind the spoils can be good for trout with Croaker, Piggies on a drift. Make sure you got your drift sock on, and a south or southeast wind. The water here is about 7 or 8 feet, and the trout can be here in the middle of the day.
Rocky slough can be good with Croaker/Piggy also, but most importantly do not forget about the rocks while fishing Baffin.
