Ordered a new 7'3" MH Veritas from tacklewarehouse and got it shipped in right before our tournament at Kentucky Lake. First practice day, second cast, I set the hook and it snapped in two pieces like a twig about 2 feet from the tip. So here are my questions:
1) Anyone else have this problem with this model rod? 2) Is tacklewarehouse pretty good with replacing items like this?

I think it was a bad batch, I've heard about it probably 6-8 times always broken the same way and no other complaints at all.
As far as TW, I don't know.

As far as TW, I don't know. Good deal. It was just weird how it broke. I caught a fish the cast before that one and I liked the way it handled. I own another Veritas and have no other complaints.

You remember that rod that I had at Nationals? The one where the insert came out? Sent it back and got me a Veritas. Took about a week for the whole process.

Back to the old Weight versus strength Ratio again and High Modulus is not always the way to go. Tomato/Tom-a-to. These rods are gonna snap with a hard hook set, with braid and the drags set too tight. Something has to give. The fish, The hook, The line, the arm or the Rod.

You shouldn't have any problems returning or having your rod replaced at Tacklewarehouse. They are the best!

Already had two break on me, last one just exploded lifting a fish into the boat. Only about a 2 pound fish and it broke into 4 pieces. One last chance before I move to a different brand. love the rod, but hearing a lot of breakage stories.

I've got the 7' Heavy model as well and I have whacked some good ones on that rod. I guess this 7'3" MH model just isn't set up right. I'll give it one more try and we'll see what happens.

Coast makes some good points. As many remember the old Loomis GLX's were broken. The high modulus rods can't be treated like a fiberglass rod. The IMX's were more forgiving but I'm sure could still be broken with the wrong drag, line, and/or technique in landing the fish. The Nano technology is suppose to bridge the gap. I suppose that Airrus was the first to use this technology. However, their Puls-r rod had Multi-fiber filament winding too. Their new Nano Fusion rods use "Bucky Paper" which will be interesting if it adds the strength to the other advantages that the light weight nano technology brings to the table. Apparently, there are many blank manufacturers at this point that haven't managed to bring the quality to their blanks. Just because it's a Nano or a zillion modulus doesn't mean it's quality. Kistler has shared his story about blank suppliers and he could probably add to that discussion.

I was thinking off buying one of these myself but after reading this I think I will get another Carrot Stick instead.

You hear about many rods breaking now from multiple companies. It could be the poor quality control of these imported blanks or it could be the lines and tight drags. Perhaps the most important part of this situation is how the companies handle the returns. The inconvenience should be as limited as possible. In my opinion if the rod breaks within the warranty period the retailer should be able to pluck one off the shelf and replace it. Granted this procedure will be hindered by those that tighten the drags down with super line, throw the rod against the deck in disgust, lifting fish into the boat, or slamming the door on the rod tip. You can bet though that these $79-$100 rods probably won't have a dealer replacement warranty. If they do, you can also bet that they're getting them made for almost nothing. Might explain the quality, right?

I have a 7" heavy and I have laid into multiple 6 - 7 lbs Northern pike on a Crank with 65 lbs PowerPro and drag set pretty tight and never thought twice about it breaking. Handles the fish awesome.
Also caught multiple 4 - 5 lbs smallies on it and I have extreme confidence in it. Srs. Found them for 70$ shipped off of Amazon and wouldn't think twice about buying 50 more.
Light enough to cast a crank all day. Sweet rods.
