Headed down to Port O'connor for the first time, the first weekend in august. Just looking for some info/advice on what to expect and how to get those big bad reds and specs! Fishing on 22 ft bay boat and have heard live shrimp or croaker on a popping cork rig over oyster colonies and shallow flats is good. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated

be very careful to follow the marked channel well in the flats just south west of town. We got out to turn around and got stuck, the channel is only about 3 maybe 4 foot in most places so its not the best place for a bass boat.

Out near the big jetties in the deeper water you can catch big bull reds moving with the tide.

Might be safer to fish out of Charlies and fish San Antonio bay, panther reef, and 1st and second chain of islands.. all shell. Mouth of Shoalwater is good as well.

You can run Saluria Bayou ....it's south of Bayoucus island that gets a little hairy.

You can run south in the intercoastal take army hole cut follow markers thru cut. Fish 3-5 ft on the outside of dewberry. Its better if you get out and wade. Get to boat ramps early, traffic gets bad, and parking gets hard to find.

If S.A. Bay doesn't clean up I wouldn't waste much time south.

It's a compressed potlicker convention right now...too little decent water too many binoculars with ring a dings driving....

Just because the sales guy told you you can go anywhere anyone else can go, it's not necessarily true. I've drug four rocket scientists off sand bars because they saw us fishing the back country. A 23' cat is NOT a light boat, I'm really getting close to revoking my nice guy that pulls idiots out of trouble card.... When you see a crab trap in 3" of water, pretty good chance that tuna schooner ain't gonna make it through..
