Getting ready to head back down for a few days of fishing and relaxation...how's the fishing around the pass? Anything biting in the surf or bayside around Crystal Beach? Any/all advice will be greatly appreciated...gonna be down there the week of 6-13 thru 6-17.

There were some kayakers right outside the pass on the surf side tearing up reds last weekend... They were out far enough that you couldn't cast to them unless you had some serious gear...

Either way, I enjoyed watching them pull 'em out since I was getting skunked at the time...

This is from Joe Kent,s reel report;

On the fishing scene, Richard Cockrell and three friends wade-fished the surf around Rollover Pass early Sunday and Monday. They landed limits of trout to 24 inches by 10:30 a.m. each morning. Cockrell said the water was a beautiful green but quite cold.

That's pretty encouraging! Any specific techniques working better than others? The reason I ask is I need to know what to pack so that I'm not carrying dead weight...thanks in advance!

Fished Rollover Wednesday night, on the bayside and three of us caught 12-14. Mostly very small croaker, whiting, one speck (on a small green grub) and a couple of hardhead on dead shrimp. Fished bigger rigs with cut mullet, live perch and croaker, but didn't get a bite on any of that. Also threw a troutkiller some but didn't catch any. Spoke to a guy that said that he wades the surf just outside the cut with hard plastic mirror lures and has been catching limits of big trout. His best luck comes just as the tide is turning out.

Hey bluewave,

I hear every so often from other fishman what you are saying "That you have to know how to read the tide", I dont have anyone to really teach me this particular skill, would you mind giving me a few pointers on how to read the tide.
Much appreciated if you would! I normally fish at Rollover Pass all the time.

Rollover was hot all day today ,nothing but redfish caught that I seen . I have never seen as many fish caught there as today .
When the fish made a run through the pass there would be five or six people hooked up at once and that went on till I left around 4:30 .
Mullet were plentiful . We caught a lot of 18 inch or so red's but most everyone was filling their limit .

Water was green almost to the beach and the water in the pass was clear with very little sea weed .

Hey TxRedneck,

Man oh man, that is Awesome. I am so glad to hear that. I am glad that they are biting that good now. I am planning my fishing trip in 2 weeks, hopefully I will get my share. I plan on staying there for about 3 days and staying overmight in my tent. Were there any other people camping out at night there at Rollover PAss too? Thanks for the report! thumb

There were several motor homes a a couple travel trailer's but it was not over crowded .
I'm planning a trip Friday if I can hold off that long .

I was fishing next to a nice couple from Pearland . Their ten year old girl had limited out around noon and the guy had yet to catch a keeper . She wasn't letting anyone forget it either . Her first cast of the day she pulled in two redfish .Hard to top that .

banana
It was an awesome day with a very nice bunch of people .
